Savea Sano Malifa and Muliaga Jean Malifa warmly welcome you to the website for the Samoa Observer Tusitala Short Story Competition.

This Pacific competition for adults where you can write in English or Samoan is something we have been dreaming about for quite some time.

And we hope it will not only encourage a resurgence in telling our stories, but that it will provide well written literature for the world to enjoy.

But why the name Tusitala, some of you may be wondering?

Tusitala simply means “teller of tales.”

It was the name Samoans affectionately called their friend, the Scotsman and author, Robert Louis Stevenson, when they addressed him.

We invite you too to be a “teller of tales” and we look forward to receiving your entries.
